    Universal Geneve Redial ?

Was offered this watch recently by a local dealer. It is featured in the Sala book but (I’m no expert) something seems wrong with the dial and my gut feeling is that it has been restored. Was hoping I could get some thoughts from y’all.

I can understand why you might have concerns about the dial, simply because of the exceptional condition, which is rare for these COMPUR models. On the other hand, the printing is quite fine and generally of high quality. It looks nice at a first glance (and I'm sure it looks great to the naked eye), and certainly isn't like one of the terrible re-dials that we often see.

One thing that concerns me (but could be a distortion in the photo) is the mis-alignment of the "1" and "0" in the number "10". The "7" also looks funny. Do these issues also appear when you see the dial in person? Or are they artifacts of the photo?

Hey thanks for your reply. Yes the 1 and 0 in the 10 do appear misaligned in person, although I have seen this in authentic dials of the period where the 0 seems to drop. The 15 minute marker is also missing.

Well, the "0" is sometimes shorter than the "1", but I believe the bottoms should be aligned. In any case, it's very hard for me to tell from the photo. I see what you mean about the missing "15", and I agree that's odd. Very good observation; I didn't notice that. I looked on Google Images at other examples, and while I couldn't find this exact dial, all the dials I saw were symmetrical with respect to the "45" and "15", so I would have expected a partial "15". I wish the photo had better lighting.

Yeah sorry about that. I have an old iPhone and picture quality isn’t great on top of all that. I see what you mean about the “7” font being a little odd, I hadn’t noticed that.

The "25" on the minute track looks poorly printed to me.
I may be a little bit overly into Japanese watches. Maybe.

You can see the left edge of the numeral 9; I don't think this is present in original UG Compur dials.

I know nothing about these watches, but I see nothing that would put me off (which is quite scary, if it is infact a re-dial:))

No, you can't see the left edge of the "9", there is no "9". You are probably seeing the partial "45". Look carefully.
