Unortodox compare: Certina 25-66 versus Vostok 2809

    Hi!
This is just a question, as i have a hard time letting go one of my watches.
I got a Certina with 25-66 movement and a Volna with a 2809 Vostok movement.
Both movement are in equal shape (very good) and top serviced.

Speaking only from the movement point of view and considering that they are in very similar state, which you consider as being the better one.
I know its a strange and dumm question...

You can't compare a movement that's been tested to a higher standard to an ordinary movement. Saying this Certina has a higher base standard then Vostok and their movements just look nicer and more fun to work on.

True. And i incline to say the same. But 2809 it was capable of chronometer precision..

The Certina also, but Certina sold just 7221 samples of the automatic version as chronometer. For many modern movements it is more or less a matter of demand whether they are regulated to chronometer specs, and in the middle class, customers are not willing to pay for the extra work.

In the end pick the watch you like the most and keep it.

I chosed Certina :) it is nicer at looks and what i found today was convincing. So it is Certina Bristol 235 goldcap from 1972 and not the Volna from 1958 :)

Good choice but then I'm a Certina fan.

Here is one of the rare Certina chronometer watches and this one I'll service next week. These Coronation models have a gold top but the rest of the case is steel. The crown needs replacing as it's lost much of the gold cap.

Between 1961-73 it was the independent "Bureaux Officiels de contrôle de la marche des montres" that set the standard and companies could get a certificate for watches that upheld a specific standard. Because many countries had higher duties on adjusted watches they were much more expensive just to export and the cost for Certina to get a movement to this standard was man hour heavy. I'm not sure if they had parts made specific to these movement but I know the 25-651 is very accurate as it is.
