    Unusual Waltham Dial ??

I picked up a few watches today and there is a key wind Waltham with a dial I have never encountered. I was wondering if anyone has seen one before?

    That's an awesome collection, buddy!

What can you tell me about the watch under the "ATC" in"Pilotswatch"?

That's new. It doesn't match any of their registered TM fonts. They didn't call themselves that until ~1885, and they didn't make very many keywinds after that...maybe it was an export watch? What movement is in it?

Curiouser and curiouser. The NAWCC database thinks that serial number belongs to a 11 jewel Open Face, not a 7 jewel keywind. And it dates it to 1887, several years after they adopted the name "American Waltham Watch Co". Now mind you, the ledgers aren't always accurate, and there were inconsistancies. Possibly this dial was specifically designed to "announce" the new name? Or perhaps it's an aftermarket replacement?

"Curiouser and curiouser" is the right term. This is the kind of curiosity that keeps us collecting. Thanks for the info.

I believe that phrase ("Curiouser and curiouser") comes from "Alice in Wonderland".

    It's a misread

The serial number is actually 3851755, which does correspond to an 18s 7 jewel keywind Broadway.
Wish I could help with the dial, but it's unlike any I've ever seen.

    Re: It's a misread

I think you are right about the serial number, it has to start with 38 not 33, Pilotswatch may confirm. The very interesting dial has been responded to on NAWCC, it was used in the 1880ies and is probably uncommon.
