    Unwind an automatic watch?

    Hi,
What would make a stuck automatic watch "unwind" so that it will work? Thanks.

It depends very much on your definition of stuck. If the rotor is seized then there is one problem. If the crown won't turn, another. If it is one of those that won't wind from the crown, yet another. If the balance does not swing, the problem may well not be as it appears. Automatics in general cannot be wound tight because they have to allow for slipping when wound to maximum torque so I don't think this is the correct approach to the problem.

So more questions before any answers can be forthcoming, I'm afraid.

Does the balance swing if shaken?
    Is the rotor locked?
    Does the crown turn?
What is the make of the watch

To unwind an automatic watch is more delicate that a normal watch.
you must remove the automatic module.
If you don't have any experience here on that one don't do it.....
    if you have:
wind the watch with the crown till the click is IN position in the ratchetwheel.
then remove the rotor and module.
turn the crown, you see the click disengage, hold the click with tweezers or small screwdriver and then GENTLY let the crown slip between your fingertips, don't let loose of the crown or it will unwind in an instant, bad for your watch....

    succes,
