    Vacheron & Constantin triple calendar

Recently serviced Vacheron & Constantin with pointer date and day-month discs... Nice.
Was asked by customer if is it all original or something wrong.

Case was usual with gold and V&C marks.

Dial probably was refinished, surafce difference with discs seen. Discs aged, dial is minty... Is it?

Yes, definitely a redial - the date digits are partly off the elevated ring (e.g. "3"). Base movement is a Cal. 453 by LeCoultre, frequently used as a base calibre by VC at that time.

    Thank you, Hartmut !

Good-eye, how could you spot those date numerals, great!

    Are hands original?

Hands original? Now that's more difficult - one would have to know the right reference. I suspect they are correct since they match each other and are all of the right length. However, that is anything but a certainty..... - they might just have been selected very well to suit this watch.

Looking up VC triple date watches in Google shows up specimens with the same hands. So I'd go with either original hands, or just the perfect replacements. Although a redial it is, it's definitely a good one.

Not a bad redial, but not a great one, as the two lines the date numbers lie (mostly!) within have been scribed into the finish, probably to give the dial printer something to gauge where to put the calendar ring. That has spoilt the finish to the dial slightly, to my eyes.

The best part of this redial is that they removed hour markers before painting :)

To add more detail re the movement. Absolutely right for the watch, it dates from 1946 with V&C caliber 485. Earlier calendar watches had the caliber 455, add moon phases for caliber 495.
