Verification of a Wittnauer Genevé automatic Super Compressor

Hi Guys! Been using this site for a while, now its my time to seek help from you gurus and Experts!

I am in the process of selling my Wittauer, but the buyer wants me to verify that the Watchi s authentic! I wrote to Wittnauer (Bulova), and they very kindly wrote me back saying they only have a few 70s catalogues left from the purchase of the Wittnauer brand, so no help there. Longines didn’t come up with anything either.

What I know, or think I know: Case is Brevet so should be correct, one crown is with the Wittnauer logo, the other without, maybe that is a replacement. Dial has been redone, as well as the lumen. Some time ago, at least from the strength of the lumen. Movement says Wittnauer on the rotor, so I doubt that the movement isn’t original and authentic either. Google search reveals that the “T Swiss T” I think should have a “25” on either side.

So can you help med verify what ref that watch might possibly have, and what movement it should have/caliber for that?

Thanks a lot for anything you can add!

    Hi there,

A buyer who hasn't lost his marbles would not ask a seller of any old item about authenticy, and I'd even run a wide bow around a seller who guarantees authenticy. That said, offer the buyer answers about details of the watch, and else advise him to ask someone else regarding authenticy.

Anyway, I can't see anything wrong (including the dial). But this is based on my personal limited knowledge, and I'd never give a written quarantee about it.

I don't see anything wrong either. Where are you selling this watch? I love it and am interested.

It looks fine. My advice is to charge the prospective buyer an extra 10% for being skeptical.

agree with the others. i think you have a great watch fairly described and fairly disclosed that many vintage dive guys would be interested in. tell buyer to find another seller as its not likely he would find too many Witt. super compressors around.

Don't worry about the 'T Swiss T' or 'T 25' in whatever form. Both markings have been used. 'T' on both sides means that tritium has been used for illumination on the dial. T 25 (or better 'T < 25', as I know it from Rolex for example) is another specification, indicating that the amount of Tritium was less than 25 milliCuries of radioactive tritium when originally applied.

The movement is by Record Watch Co. (Cal. 1955), also used by Longines (Cal. 501) - and obviously also by Wittnauer.
