    Verify GP?

Does the dial look genuine? The "WED" looks handwritten, as well as the numerals in the bottom hour counter? Or was that just the style in those days?

It seems the hands were repainted as well? I can't imagine it came from the factory in fluro green?

    1940s? It has a 287 movement.

    Thanks :)

Hands should match the numerals. The date wheels both seem off except for the obvious WED. The bottom sub-dial looks a bit too far to the right?

Thanks for your analysis. The "6" in the hour counter doesn't match the "30" below it, or is that just how the scale works?

Also, do the surrounding black line for each sub-dial look a bit odd? Usually each sub-dial appears more "contoured" (sorry don't know how to describe it), so there's no need for a surrounding line?

Then again, I've never seen a GP Geneve before, only the UG ones. Nonetheless, I'm pretty convinced this is quite a bad redial!

    Re: Verify GP?

I tried contacting the seller to tell him about it, in case he didn't know. This is how he replied:

"I am in resale... I sell a lot of merchandise... buyers can nowdays make up their own minds. Go back to <insert_location>"

The watch is probably now sold to some poor buyer as the seller ended his listing early, probably trading outside ebay to minimise fees.

Did Girard Perregaux use all capital letters befor the mid 1970's?

Yeah, I think so. This one looks legit:

You can really see the difference in quality.

    Re: Verify GP?

What a charming seller! Anyway, the sub dial doesn't line up to the 6:00 position. The day dials? Hard to say what's going on there; the crystal looks scratched, so that might be the cause of the messy look. But the hands have been re-lumed and very insensitively, really quite awful. My instinct is that the dial has been re-done, not very well, and the seller is being 'clever.' I can kind of guess where this came from and sad to say that these guys have pretty much ruined Girard-Perregaux as a brand. A real shame, very hard to find good and honest examples. Tri-Compax go for a lot of money and so caution must be used when approaching this model, too.

I can imagine getting that in and seeing the dial glued on, oil all over the moment, generally bodged. It just looks wrong, especially as he couldn't even be bothered to sort the lume out on the hands.

Looks like seller relisted the item again. I wonder why.

I wonder if it's possible to report such listings to eBay. I guess it's hard to find solid "proof" though.
