    Re: Vintage 1924 Elgin

I wish I had good news for you but I don't.

That is one of the HARDEST crown-stem-sleeve combinations in the business.

That case model requires an oversized crown and the crown tube is 3.8mm in diameter.

The crowns are nearly impossible to obtain out in the wild.

The inner sleeve is nearly impossible to obtain, they have not been made in about 91 years, a standard inner sleeve will NOT work on this case.

I discuss these cases on page 88 of my book "Elgin Trench Watches of the Great War".

Also, on pages 196 - 198 of "Waltham Trench Watches of the Great War".

These cases were available in yellow gold fill, white gold fill and sterling silver.

The case style model number is 9006 according to the Keystone Watch Case Company.

This is one of the very few cases that was originally only available with straight fixed lugs but as spring bars became available it was switched over.

This case style was first available in Fall of 1918.

You will see them stamped B&B (Bates & Bacon), Philadelphia and Keystone, Keystone owned B&B and Philadelphia.

Pictured below are two that are fully intact so you can see what the original factory crown looks like.

The Elgin is yellow gold fill with spring bar lugs, the Waltham is sterling silver with the original fixed lug configuration.

Good luck in your search, but you could search for years and not find the parts that you need.

    Re: Vintage 1924 Elgin

Hello! Would you consider posting a picture of the stem, crown and sleeve? I have many, many old parts...If I could see what's needed, I'd be happy to go through my trove! Thanks. Michael. ps: of course, the crown's shown clearly, but it's nice to see all the items by themselves...!
