    Vintage Bucherer Information please

Hi, I've recently inherited a Bucherer watch from a Great Uncle of mine. I'd be grateful if any body could offer any information on the watch, I've googled it but don't seem to be getting anywhere!

The watch face reads BUCHERER, 25 JEWELS, T SWISS T

The back casing reads ANTI-MAGNETIC, WATERPROOF, INCABLOC, AUTOMATIC, SWISS MADE. An emblem and 1888 with 543P faintly inscribed below.

    Thanks

From the size of the caseback it appears to be a 50s or early 60s vintage automatic. The band is an aftermarket replacement.

The watch should be serviced so that it can be handed down. When that is done, ask the watchmaker to identify the movement (and hopefully take some pics!). It is probably an ETA or AS movement.

Since the caseback is gold colored, it may be a solid gold case. The watchmaker can tell you for sure.

Bucherer is a Swiss chain of jewelers whose house brand watches (of which this is one) are always of good quality. That doesn't mean they are valuable however, just good.

Who is the company behind it? Why are they using this material?

...that's just my opinion and I've been wrong before and will be again and might be now!

Eeeb, thanks for the information. Can I ask how you know that the band is not the original and what the original would have been - leather?

The band is similar to a Spidel Twist-o-flex. No one to the best of my knowledge ever used these as original OEM bands. A brown leather band would be a good guess for the original. But it might have been a gold plated bracelet. Either can be had in the replacement market... though they will not be 'original'... but that's OK. Bracelets and bands are meant as wear parts to be replaced as needed.
