    Vintage Girard Perregeaux

    Hi people,
I've recently been on the hunt for a vintage bit of something nice to wear with a suit. Anyway I stumbled across this vintage Girard Perregeaux which caught my eye. I wondered if anyone had any more information about it, or could tell if it was original.

    Thanks in advance

That movement seems really, really plain for the house of GP. This caliber has shock protection, meaning it is post 1950's, which makes me suspicious. It looks to be an off-the-shelf piece (that is running too fast).

Also, why does it have a round caseback?

Hopefully some others better acquainted with this brand can shed some more light.

Roland Ranfft`s pages do contain a few calibres with that low grade finish,so i would say no problems there.I`m not sure what caliber it is though, and whether or not it should have shock protection. It`s a very handsome watch and will go great with a suit!

It look like one of the wheels isn't in it's jewel but I don't think it would work if it was so it's probably just my poor old eyes not working.

Odd this movement has an extra wheel and nothing I have come across before.

I guess to accommodate the large balance wheel they have shuffled things around, and now the second wheel(or is it the third wheel) pivot is held by the innards of the crown wheel, very strange.

I'd love to take that thing apart and have a look and it sure ain't no ordinary movement. I think I can see the cogs for the third (forth) wheel as well so I think they have added an extra wheel.

Were is Roland when we need him.

So it appears original? I'm still not sure if I should go for it or not?

I'd say yes as I can't see anything wrong with it.

One thing i don`t know for sure about this model (as i don`t have another one to compare to) is whether or not the dial is meant to be completely flat,or whether it is meant to be convex around the edges like it appears to be?

I sure ain't an expert on Girard Perregeaux and I know they are one of the most faked brands as it's so easy to do and I wish there was more time before the auction ends.
