    Vintage Girl*-next-door (G*ND) watches.

I don't know about you but my vintage watch collecting encompasses many different makes and values. I buy on-line and at the charity shop or boot sale. When buying from the last two it is not a case of buying what you are looking for, as you would on-line, but rather what they have available at that moment. As a consequence you can come away with smug-grin-inducing hidden treasures which would get put onto the main Vintage WRUW threads, or perhaps something more prosaic: this thread is for these less valuable watches, still working and complete but with no complications and worth less than £40/$50 . I have had the old Timex for a long time and have always been impressed by the amazingly beautiful face..( this could be where the girl* next door idea came from)

.. but , being a Timex, its value does not equate to its looks.
The Accurist in the next picture is a slightly different, more utilitarian item but, 65 years after being made, still keeps excellent time and is in good condition despite little nicks and smudges.

This is the sort of watch that my dad used to wear.
If you have similar watches that have the G*ND factor then let them have an airing and a little of the wider appreciation that they deserve. Hopefully we can save a few from the dreaded steampunk-in-the-sky.

I service and fix watches like this all the time and as I'm just a happy hobby tinker I can do it for much less then a watchmaker and at my own leisure.

This is the nicest I fixed up and sold so far. It will always be remembered by me as the Trump watch as I sat the election night (night here in Sweden) and rebuilt it and it was such a joy doing so. Of course a nice guy from USA snapped it up at once so off it went on a adventure a few days later. So I only got to wear it once and miss it a lot.

Never seen that one before. That is the same type of bracelet found on some very expensive Swiss watch so it must have cost a pretty penny in the day.

Here is a typical Tissot from the 50's and you can buy them as junk for very little and make them nice again and they surprise you every time. Sure the lume is missing in the hands but it's part of the watch somehow.

These 70's beauties one can pick up for peanuts and do up. I didn't even pay for this one and got it with two other watches for a service job.

Look, it even has the turtle on the back.

You often find them in need of some love but usually they work just fine under the wear tear.

This Helvetia I picked up for $20 and looks a bit sad but it works great and one day I will polish the crystal and clean it up. (don't buy one if you can't polish mineral glass though!)

I live in Sweden and Certina was very big here so prices on old dirty ones are very low. You must have similar popular brands in your country so go for them.

I usually go for auctions like this. I guss the winning bid will be in the range of $50-60 for these two watches but often it's much less.

I got this 40's President for next to nothing (never seen "Watersafe" on the dial before). Just ask around and you will find gems like this.

No that's $2 watches... You must have the good stuff as well.

Didn't brands like Atlantic sell a lot of watches in the eastern European countries?
