    Vintage Hamilton

My wife and I recently discovered this timepiece - an old Hamilton which belonged to her great great aunt. Thought perhaps someone might know more about this than we do and wish to share, or at least find it interesting! We believe it's from the 1920s, but we're far from certain about it. It's not working currently, but we are going to have it serviced by a local watchmaker this weekend and hope to restore it to working order.

    Cheers everyone!

    Re: Vintage Hamilton

Welcome to the Vintage forum. I suspect that the watch is from distinctly later than the 1920s, partly because of the overall style and partly because of the logo which I have not seen on pre-WWII Hamilton watches. Small ladies' watches of this style are generally almost worthless (over and above material value) - but that's not because they are trash but because almost noone collects them these days. If your wife or another family member will wear it, servicing is a great idea, after which it will keep good time, last for decades (given continuous servicing at intervals) and make a great heirloom for generations to come.

Thanks Harmut! Interesting, I would love to pin the date down a little closer. And I appreciate the input in terms of value. Of course, it makes sense that there's not much of a market for such watches. Our thought was indeed that she would be able to wear and use it, so once it's in working order it will live happily as part of our rather modest collection.

I believe your watch is more likely from the early 60s. That is the first time I have seen the stylized H on their dials. If you search through the Vintage Watch Forum , their are Hamilton catalogs with pictures. Might be able to find it or something similar.

It looks to me like you have a "Kimberley 85-3" from the 1962 catalogue.

What a lovely little cocktail watch, I hope your wife gets many years of enjoyment from it.
