    Vintage LeCoultre identification help needed…

    Hello All,

I am looking for some help identifying this LeCoultre Chronograph.

Can anyone give me a reference number? It was a gift to a friend in the 1940’s.

    Any information is greatly appreciated!

    Regards,

    John

About all I can say off the top of my head is that it is almost certainly an unadjusted Valjoux 72 movement inside. Le Coultre used them from the 1940s.

Do you know the case serial number? That should help you out with dating the piece and other information.

    It's beautiful, by the way.

    Barnaby,

    Thank you, it is beautiful.

Thanks for the movement information. That is a good start!

I will see if I can get the serial number for it.

    Regards,

    John

Unfortunately, the case serial number isn't going to help very much. I agree that this is likely a Valjoux movement, although some LeCoultre chronographs used Universal movements.

The case may have been made in the USA for LeCoultre. If so, it is unlikely that today's JLC will not have any records regarding this watch.

Looks like a 1940's style. Assuming all functions work properly, this is a very desireable piece.

    Take care,

    Hey Guys!

Thanks for the help. I think it is a Valjoux 72 Movement inside, I will find out more when it she is opened up.

With the movement information, I was able to find the exact watch listed for sale.

Here is the photo of it.

Here is the seller’s description of the watch, which is an exact match, bar the movement as that is still unknown at this point.

17 jewel signed manual wind chronograph movement (Valjoux cal. 72), 18K yellow gold signed round screw back case w/ fancy molded horn lugs…35mm, plain crown…signed silver dial with applied yellow dot markers, three registers; constant seconds and 30 minute and twelve hour recorders, chronograph center seconds.

I realty appreciate all the information so far!

    Regards,

    John

    John,
When you open her up send the serial number to www.jaeger-lecoultre.com
and ask them for a history check. It really is amazing how much information they have on all their products, no matter how old.
