    Vintage Longines 1940's

    Hello everyone,

Picked up this Longines that is in desperate need of some TLC. Going to service it next week and was hoping someone can help me identify the model and exact year.
The movement reads: Longines Watch Co. swiss Seventeen 17 jewels 7137696 10L unadjusted LXW"
and the inside of the case reads: "Cased and timed in USA by longines 10K gold filled 9444606"

    Thanks in advance!

1945 would be a reasonable guess, but to know more, you would have to contact Longines. They will provide the information for free if you send them photos. I don't think that there is any particular model name.

The watch has been manufactured in the second half of the 40s and doesn't have a particular name

    I appreciate it bsshog40,
I went to my Longines boutique in Miami and they advised it would be a 3-6 month timeframe on the service and can be anywhere from $600-$3000. None of that sounds appealing to me so I will be searching for a watchmaker in Miami who can do the service. Its holding power really well (40+ hours) but is not keeping time well (+3.5 min every hour). In addition to the service, I will be getting a strap to give it some more life while keeping the case and dial as is. Will clean up the plastic/glass as it has some scratches and scuffs.

If anyone knows a good watchmaker in Miami and/or knows a good company who makes straps, let me know! My measurements came out to 16mm and so far I found this one online: https://strapsco.com/product/crocodi...r-watch-strap/

    Cheers,

    Shaul

An independent watchmaker is definitely the way to go, and will be much more economical. The crystal has a lot of internal cracks from aging, which cannot be fixed. You will either have to live with that, or have the crystal replaced during service. Try to resist using the watch until it is serviced.

    Re: Vintage Longines 1940's

    Thank you Dan,

Yes, I avoided wearing it, just gave it one cycle of winding to see if it holds power and what kind of time its keeping. I found a watchmaker in Miami (Patrick in downtown Miami). Im avoiding using my old watchmaker who serviced my Omega seamaster (1967) caliber 565. I went to omega and they gave me the same story as longines ($600-a few thousand etc) so when I found the first independent watchmaker after omega who said $350 for the service, I thought I was getting a deal. Only after the fact did I find out from a friend that it should have cost $150-$200 from an IW.

    fyi,
My Omega was just a standard service, nothing faulty.
