Vintage Norman, Hamilton & Doxa - help identify

    Hi,

I was hoping to get some help identifying these gorgeous finds! My mom went though some family stuff and found a few watches that her family got from the US years ago. The collection includes a Hamilton, a Doxa, and a really interesting Norman with mystery dial. Could anybody tell me more about these watches?

I'm really interested in this Norman watch - I haven't seen anything quite like it before and I couldn't find much online. Thanks!

Re: Vintage Norman, Hamilton & Doxa - help identify

Hello, welcome to Watchuseek, and congratulations on coming across these watches - a nice start to a collection.

Very often, new members ask for a watch to be identified, thinking that the watches may have a "name" of some sort, but many (in fact most) vintage watches don't have specific model names (there are some exceptions, and your Hamilton in particular might have a model name). Often, "identification" comprises information about the movement, the condition/originality, style/age, etc. And in order for us to do this, it is extremely useful (and sometimes absolutely necessary) to have more photos, including the back, the inside of the case-back, the movement, etc. The photos should be in-focus, high resolution, and clearly show and writing and/or symbols. Also, it can sometimes be useful to provide measurements (in mm) of the case and of the outer diameter of the movement. So you will probably get more active responses if you can provide more of this information.

Thank you for your reply! That's helpful to know what kind of information I could provide in order to identify these. I'll be taking these to the watchmaker to try to find out more and open them and look at the movements. I am also interested in Norman watch in terms of the company that made it - it says Norman Swiss Made on the dial but I couldn't find any information online about the company.

    Thanks!

The Hamilton looks very similar to this one. Not sure of the gold in yours though, but it should be around the same time period.

You can also search the catalogs here. I would start at 1949 to 1952. They had many models that had just small changes in them, lugs, indices, things like that. It will make your head ache :)
