    Vintage Omega Seamaster

    Hi All

I am new to this vintage game. Is the attached a fairly run of the mill Omega Seamaster ?? It
looks in very good nick for 1956, should I be particularly wary?? Cheers J

I'd say this watch is from a tropical climate such as India....it looks in good
condition, but look closely....pitting on the case seat, over polished case,
re-dial, questionable movement, I'd guess a Mumbai special.

Cheers, so what causes the pitting ?? and what makes the movement questionable ??

Stainless steel is corrosion resistant but a mixture of hot, humid climate
and human sweat seems to do the trick.

The movement is not of an even colour over its parts, look at the rotor.
This suggests the movement could be made from parts and could be
non original, saying that it looks better than most in watches such as this,
    but definately questionable.

A movement which is original and in good condition will be of an even colour
    over its plating.

Well it's worth something, how much would one pay? Certainly
nowhere near as much as a watch which is genuinely in GOOD
    untouched, original condition.

    Re: Vintage Omega Seamaster

I think that is ridiculous for such a watch.
Good vintage Seamasters can be had for around half
that price but discussion of watch valuation is not allowed
on this forum so's that's all I can say really....don't rush into
anything as vintage Omegas abound, buy from a trusted
seller, avoid watches from the Tropics and allow for servicing
    costs in your equation.
