    Vintage REVUE- genuine?

    Hello to all,

    Is this a real REVUE?
(big 10cm case, 8-day wind, works very accurately).

Thank you in advance for any comments.

    Hello Tanel,

It looks genuine to me, although the caliber isn't familiar. These type of "exact time" clocks were typically used in windows of dealers during the 1950s, and served both as advertising for the manufacturers and to allow people to set their own watches accurately. It almost certainly began its life encased in a wooden display or some sort.

    A nice, and uncommon watch.

    Regards,

    Tony C.

First all all, nice watch, looks genuine.

With the advantage of having seen your second set of images, I can say, that this would be more a sales pitch and a watch to be displayed at places selling Revue watches or a demonstration object for sales people. The movement is very far away from chronometer quality and the wooden box, and the entire make of it, suggest a little bit a ship's chronometer. The marking 'genaue Zeit' (exact time) adds a little more to this. Nevertheless, I am unsure about the box (and therefore also about the above comments). It looks like it has been made yesterday, both wooden and brass parts. The designation 'genaue Zeit' had been used by Revue long before 1900. To have the brass parts in that condition, you have to take the thing apart and apply a special cleaning, unless it's a good remake.

I am also a bit puzzled about the movement cal. 58 which I can't find anywhere. Similar ones, cal. 57 and cal. 59 are from the late 1940s onwards, the cal. 58 might be a special one made (perhaps in the 1950s) for this watch, based on the movements afformentioned.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your comment!
But yes, you are right, the box is not the original. I did it myself (out of the vintage mahogany box).
