    Vintage Roamer

    Hello All,

I have a watch and the brand is fade but I can see it´s a roamer. In the movement i don´t have any mention to the brand, is it normal?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks

Hi. Yes it's quite normal for Meyer & Studeli not to mark the brand name on the calibre. It looks like an MST 229 and I would date it to the late 1930's but before 1938.

Under the balance cock it may well have the calibre reference but with these small calibre you often need to remove the calibre from the case to see it.

    Hi ,
If you do have a loupe or other magnifying glass and some decent light at the right angle you may see the MST logo under the balance cock as Mirius has said.
Under the bottom of the letters MST and within the shield shape will be the 3 digit calibre.
If it`s not in working condition parts may still be available to fix it up -should you want to.
I have a Roamer from the late 1920`s/early `30`s still keeping time to around 20 seconds a day so good luck .

    Hi Demonfinder,

Thank you for your help! As I told to Mirius, I did not find the Mst logo... Anyway I look only for the calibre 229 and it seems exactly the same and seeing the picture I also cannot find the logo. Maybe I have to remove parts as told by Mirius.

The clock is working but it advance around 2 hours in one day. So it id running to fast, any idea of what´s happening?

    All the best

    Re: Vintage Roamer

M&ST only made two calibres which have this bridge layout so I have little doubt that this is what you have. The calibre logo will also be under the dial but again you would need to start taking the watch apart to see it. No need for that as it will be seen when the watch has a service.

The regulator is all the way over on slow and the watch runs very fast. I would suspect that the hairspring is dirty or magnetised - do not attempt to touch it or clean it! The watch needs a service. This will cure the running fast problem. Any good watchmaker can service this for you. But if it needs parts then this is likely to be a problem.

    Hi Mirius,

Thank you for all your help!

I will ask a watchmaker that I know to service it and see what he tells me.

    Regards,

    Bernardino
