I know that we're not supposed to offer valuations on this forum, but I have to agree with your assessment. Family history is beyond price.

That's about as close to an authentic evaluation that you're ever going to get. The only real value is in the gold, but when were you thinking of melting the watch-case down for scrap, exactly?

It's market value is the higher of, it's gold value, or it's value as a piece of jewelery. There's a good chance it has a higher value as a piece of vintage jewelery but I'm not qualified to make that evaluation. The one thing it is not is a typical woman's cocktail watch. It doesn't have value as a collectable watch due to lack of intrest and known maker. As a piece of jewelery only a specialist in vintage jewelery will be qualified to make an evaluation.

The movement looks like a fairly standard Adolf Schild Cal. AS 1012 or 1017 (or derivatives), depending on exact size:

    bidfun-db AS_1012: AS 1012

    bidfun-db AS_1017_21: AS 1017-21

These movements were made in their millions so they are not exactly rare. The trouble is that noone really collects ladies watches form that era - even the ladies are nowadays more interested in bigger watches that have at least a second hand, if not a date, automatic winding or even bigger complications. So, the market for such watches is practically non-existent - old stock of such movements are even converted to gents cufflinks these days!!! As such, it is safe the value is practically zero, if it is gold, you can reckon the scrap gold value. It is very likely worth much more to you to whom it is a family heirloom. Hence my previous posters' replies.
