    Vintage source

Hey all, I’m new to the vintage game and have been looking at picking up some pieces for my wife and I. Are there any sources for purchasing that are reliable? In particular, I really like the looks of the 60s Seiko Champions.

    Thanks!

How about online dealers? Anyone use international vintage watch company out of LA?

I routinely look at about 40 online dealers (closer to 60 if you include specific eBay and etsy sellers); however, in general I'm not comfortable saying that any particular dealer is perfectly accurate, fair, or trustworthy. Some are better than others, but there is no substitute for using your own eyes and expertise.

I have never looked at the seller you mentioned. I just took a quick look, and their prices look to be at least 50% higher than other dealers, and at least 100% higher than fair eBay prices. I checked a few examples of watches that I am familiar with (not Seiko), and their examples were not particularly special in any way. I did not bookmark their website.

Anyone else think highly of any dealer in particular?

I have never seen that people are willing to publicly recommend specific dealers on this forum, probably for the reasons I mentioned above, i.e. none of them are totally reliable, and we would not want to be responsible for your making a bad purchase. I'm also not certain that it would be consistent with Watchuseek rules, because it could be construed as a violation of rule #5 (Forum Rules and Guidelines - watchuseek.com).

But since you are asking, I will send you a pm with a huge list of online dealers. However, I will say that for every watch I buy from one of those dealers, I probably buy 5 from eBay.

    Re: Vintage source

I'd recommend getting good photos of any vintage watch that has some value and posting the pictures on this forum for comment before putting down the green. I bought a Roamer from a supposed reliable seller in China this year and it turned out to be a re-dial with the wrong movement in a stainless case, lesson learned.

If you're just buying a watch to wear and not collect then not such an issue. If you're going to have to pay to have it serviced then buy the best you can to start with IMO.
