    Vintage Stopwatch

    Hi everyone,

My late grandfather was a sprinter in the 50s and 60s and I recently inherited his stop watch from my dad who felt I would appreciate it more. It might just be the watch fan in me but I find it a fascinating piece so wanted to share it with you all.

I did a bit of Googling but couldn't really find anything about the company. Does anyone know much about this kind of watch?

I'm not sure actually, there are no hallmarks on it at all so maybe not.

    Guid evenin!

    Nice piece.

They (link below) should be able to tell you more (they might even be delighted to see that stopwatch). Waverly is most likely the name of a jeweler having sold the watch, perhaps someone else.

Thanks for this, I thought I had emailed them but there seems to be 2 Ritchies which is interesting. Thanks for the pic, I'll send them an email now!

And please let us know what came out (if they are the right ones), always interested in this.

There are watchmakers and companies, even in the upper sector, which are very reluctant in this respect. Especially from Switzerland, you often get the answer 'a fire has destroyed all our records'. You can hear this so often, that the whole of Switzerland must have meanwhile gone to ashes. Besides, you must be dumb as a piece of plywood or lazy as a thick piece of plywood), if you (as a professional) can't say anything at all about a watch which was made in the company at some stage (I mean in general at least).

And there are many others. Speaking of Switzerland: Omega is a fine example or the watchmakers and jewelers Galli in Zurich. I asked about the lift angle of a movement (Omega) or an approximate date when a particular pocket watch was sold (Galli). I got fast, prompt and precise answer, for watches, which had been sold 80 and more years ago and which went to who knows how many hands in the meantime.

The difference? Some take pride in your job and business, others...
