    Vintage Zenith Pocket Watch

    Hello.

Long story short, a family heirloom was passed down to me some years ago. I forgot about it but found the watch yesterday after a big house cleaning. I would appreciate anything you could tell me about it, production year/years and movement if that is at all possible.
I tried to email Zenith but they told me that they could not help me via email, I had to sent it to a dealer. To bad for me I don't live anywhere near one. I would guess that the watch has remained untouched at least since the 1940´s, meaning no service, no use and/or no repair. It may have been produced during or after the 40´s which would render my guess mute...
Anyway, I hope you could help me, I would greatly appreciate your expertise.

    Some information:

    • Blue hands
    • Two cases, one outer and one inner
    • Inside the outer case there is a number: 5339243 with two stamps, one "ZENITH" and the text "METAL CHROME".
    • On the movement itself it says: "ZENITH" and also there´s a number which I could not get on camera. The number is: 3187241 (Picture #4)

    -----------------------------------------------
    Side note:

    • On Picture #5 I have detected a very small text inside the outer casing that seem to been printed by hand, it says: N=1125 - 4 g (or 9) A with to stripes under it.
    • On Picture #6: 1513 W1

    Any clues?

If more pictures is needed that could be arranged.
    Thank You!

These are notes made by watchmakers who serviced the watch some time in the past. It allows them to see what their previous work was if the watch comes back.

Nice piece. Others will know more.

Nice Zenith. It dates to 1939. If you tell me the (visible) movement diameter, I will tell you the movement specifications.

Thank You! Would you mind telling me how you could identify the production year? The outer case with "5339243"? It would be nice to have some knowledge for future references. Again, Thank You!

Hartmut is Mr. Zenith. He knows all.

... the number you cite is a case number. Rarely is that used for dating. So it likely wasn't that. I think Hartmut just knew because has looked at so many Zeniths...

The movement was made in 1939 (according to the movement serial number 3187241). It is faintly possible that the watch was assembled with an old stock movement rather later (I once saw a Zenith wrist watch from 1936 with a movement from 1917 but this is very much the exception).
