Waltham 17 Jewels - collection begins

Thanks to all of you for the continous outpouring of information. It is a joy reading through these posts and seeing others who are still enthustiastic about watches.

I am starting a small collection and started with this Waltham 17 Jewels self winding. I need help identifying the year and any other information available. I look to have it restored as a piece to wear and enjoy as someone else did. Still works great!

The back cover image is blurry so I apologize for that. It seems to start with an etching of "108"and followed by what looks like some initials. I will attempt to get a better picture to show the detail.

Your images aren't working, probably because you're a new member. Try contacting a moderator and maybe they can insert them for you.

I must have used the wrong imbed codes. I loaded these as attachments so hopefully they work.

Thank you, I enjoy the smooth second hand motion with the mechanical movement. I did custom metal fabrication for years so I look forward to making a good display as the collection grows.

Welcome to Watchuseek! The watch, although superficially american, has a swiss movement, something from the Adolf Schild Cal. AS 1700 series (with date, it would be the AS 1701) or a related calibre with minor amendments. The precise calibre code could well be under the balance (in some AS 1700 movements, I have seen it hidden under a bridge). Here is some info:

    bidfun-db Archiv: Uhrwerke: AS 1701

Did my best with these and tried to get the lighting just right to show everything. I did finally notice the 1700/01 AS and that it was made in Hong Kong. Either way this will be a fun piece to have fun with and learn along the way.

    Thanks again!
