Waltham Black Dial Advert Depollier D-D Kahki.

This is the only advertisement known to exist for a Waltham black dial from December 9,1917.
Lately I been interested and looking at Waltham black dials.
This is my opinion and I'm no expert just a novice who likes vintage watches.
Could it be that we have been mislead by this advert into thinking is a black dial?
In this particular ad it mentions that it is a radium dial it does not give you a choice.
You can not see the manufactures name or the sub dial.
There is a shadow over the strap and maybe the case unless it was colored black.
Could it be possible the ad forgot to quote that it is a look at a radium dial at night.
I'm viewing a watch that glows in the dark
Maybe I have to much time on my hands lately.
    What's your opinion?

The ad is correct, the dial is black and the watch you show is in fact the black dial in the advert.

Read page 31 of "Waltham Trench Watches of the Great War", Depollier himself mentions this dial.

Also, I believe one more of the Waltham black dial adverts has been found, better quality.

Here is that other advert Stan mentioned, dates to 1918 and is the only other black Khaki advert to date.

Were these black enamel dials exclusive to Depollier cases?
The few I have seen have been in Depollier cases.
Were there other options for the hands or it was always the skeleton lumed hands?

Looking at the case in the advert, I would say it is lightly oxidised.
It was possible when processing the cases, by altering the voltage.
These two articles from 1915 and 1916 respectively, show how this was achieved.

I do not believe that this black dial was exclusive to Depollier cases.

(think of the Elgin black star dials, they were not exclusive to one case manufacturer either)

I've seen this black Waltham dial in a Philadelphia case and the cases with the 14k GF engine turned case backs and Depollier cases.

Skeleton hands are the only correct hands in my opinion.
