A Waltham PW from Denmark, 16S mdl 1908

    Just received this:
An old battered box from a jeweller in Copenhagen, Philadelphia 25yrs case with brassing, and a loose scratched plastic crystal.

But a nice double sunk dial without cracks or hairlines, and beautiful Louis XIV hands.

The inscription on the cuvette translates to:
    C. Bolderup.
With thanks for the xmas tree
    1914

    The movement:
    American Waltham, U.S.A
    17 jewel.
Engraved under the balance wheel: Adjusted.
    Serial no: 18187700, a not so common mid-grade 628.

Stem wind/set, star wheel regulator, and apparently gold center wheel and jewels in gold settings.

Guess the spot price of christmas trees was pretty high back in 1914

    Some quick and dusty snapshots:

Not so common is true, I haven't seen a 628 before, about 500 made in hunter case. Thanks for showing.

Thanks for the comments Erik H

500 HC and 350 OF made of this sub-grade.
    This one made circa 1912.
    The dial is Pressed-Center.

Compared it with an ad from 1917, and it seems that grade 628 is an export version of grade
    625.

"A.W.W.Co. Waltham Mass." replaced with "American Waltham U.S.A."
    Hands "old world" style.
Guess that "Adjusted" hiding under the balance is just to inform a foreigner working on the
watch that the balance wheel is bimetallic.

    Otherwise identical to 625.
