    watch translation

I am looking at a watch. The description is in French.
    "Matière du boîtier: Acier "
Acier translates as steel. But I havent heard of steel cases that havent been plated.
In watch terms does acier mean stainless?

    Re: watch translation

    Hi!

Most of the steelcases are unplated.
Acier inoxydable is stainless steel, but you´re right, there´s almost only acier on the back though its rustless.
    Best regards, Mike

Ordinarily, plated cases are "base metal".

If it says "acier," and it's not rusty, you can safety assume it's "acier inoxydable".

Just like some time advertisements in English will just have "steel case" when they mean "stainless steel case".
