    What is this?

    Hi everyone!

New guy here. I was wondering if anyone could give me some guidance regarding what this is. I know it's a pocket watch, but that's about my extent of knowledge on the subject. I've attached a photo here, the text on the inside of the watch reads "Elgin nat l watch ci" but the text is very very small, so a few letters may be off there. I appreciate any advice you guys can give me! Thanks in advance

I see you found the very rare upside down reverse version. Might be worth millions.

Did you try Google? The moment I typed "ELGIN" into the search box, "ELGIN NATIONAL WATCH COMPANY" was suggested. When I clicked on "Images" ... the first picture in he 2nd row looked just like yours ... which was a link to an online shop selling one.

    Elgin? B W Raymond?
What's in a name? Carried B W Raymond on RR many years
as a locomotive Engr. I recognize this a rarity as well.
Mr. B W Raymond was Prez of Elgin Watch Co.

Don‘t know exactly what it is. However, I know it was posted in the wrong forum. I really appreciate if newbies would familiarize with our fora prior to posting. Welcome to WatchUSeek.

Type the serial number on the movement into pocketwatchdatabase.com and you will get a wealth of information.

18 size Elgin hunter in an open face case. So called "sidewinder" configuration. Betting 1890-1920. 15 jewel max. Not a named movement. Single sunk dial. Nickel case. Possible swing out case. Not sure without looking at the edge. If the only part that screws off is the front then it will be a swing out as there would be no case back.
