what do you think about the seiko 6138-8020 automatic chrono

    seiko 6138-8020 automatic chrono..

i've been told this watch is from the 70's.. and is rare, and it has chronogaph, automatic movement.. heavy duty built strong and solid..

but could not find any more info..

does anyone own this watch? or knows more info about it...

    any input is highly appreciated.

    thank you!

    Hi -

Pictures are needed! We looooove to look at the pictures...

Generally speaking, the Seiko automatic chronos were, like Seiko diver's watches, very robust and dependable, but not necessarily the most accurate. Has more to do with the mass production under the conditions existing back then and less to do with the quality of the calibre: it was a deliberate decision to make them that way...

    Sorry for the late reply.
Those watches are sold here in Europe on ebay for an average of 150-175 Euro in a more diserable condition as the one you linked. I bought mine in the bay for 160 incl. S&H one and a half years ago.
If I would be you, I would look for one that has an slightly oval "O" in Seiko as the ones with a round "O" are suspected to be redials (no proof, though).
    Here's a pic of mine:

Hi! I had an 8020 few years back. Never gave me any problems, in fact a had more problems with my vintage swiss than my vintage seikos. The 6138 movement is very reliable, its a workhorse. Check out also the 6138-0040 bullhead. Nice vintage seiko to have.

It's not the policy of this forum to get into prices and valuation. Our suggestion is to check such books as Shugart or look on eBay for pricing suggestions. Also this sort of post should go in the Wanted to Buy Forum.

Yes. Thats the original seiko bracelet. This one here has a serial that dates it to jan 1975 (510012).

I use to marvel at the build quality of this compared to my swiss chronos but then I started to collect seiko and im not surprised any longer.
