    What on Earth?

A friend of mine sent me three nearly identical horological oddities. I'll reveal one image and clue at a time until someone correctly guesses what these items are used for.

First off the heart of one of these items...

PM sent. If I'm right, others can continue to guess.

Safe lock? I'm guessing from your clue of three nearly identical pieces.

You got it, but so did Eric. So much for stumping the WIS's around here.

I've never worked on a safe lock system but think they look really interesting, hope to get the chance to service one some day. I talked with someone servicing a safe deposit box (drilling one out I think) and he mentioned they keep a whole service station for the locks and movements in their trucks!

My buddy replaced these with digital units and had no use for them. They are TMI TM126R units with two working like a charm and the third gaining 10 hours over the past 48. I'll probably swap the main spring on the fast one to see if that slows it down any.

I believe the first picture you showed shows a sticky, off center hairspring, which could explain your gain. Is that the gaining one? If not, check the gaining one for the touching coils.
