Would you swap out this Marlin bracelet?

I recently took off my 20 year old Zodiac Marine Life and replaced it with a new Hamilton Khaki green dial. I really like the Hamilton and do not want to scar it up, so I picked up a very cool early Timex Marlin. It is a bit smaller and shouldn't get in the way while doing outside chores like cutting and splitting wood. I believe the Marlin has the original bracelet but I could be wrong. I'm thinking about trying a nice brown leather NATO strap? Would you swap it out?

    Thanks, T4

I think it looks fine, but if it is an expandable bracelet, it might not be the best choice for splitting wood. It might be better to have a strap or bracelet that can be fastened snugly to your wrist.

I regularly take off expanding bracelets. If you know it to be original, swap it with a good leather or NATO but hang on to that one to maintain the original configuration. If you think the bracelet is a later addition....getting rid of it would not be anything wrong.

Thanks Bubba! Am I right in thinking this is an early 60's Timex Marlin?

Are there any tiny numbers on the dial? If so ...

    1. The last two numbers represent the year of manufacture.
    2. The two numbers immediately preceeding the year of manufacture to the left represent the movement model number.
    3. The first four digits represent the Timex sales catalog number with the last digit omitted.

The dial reads Made in USA. It's an older model.

If it doesn't have the numbers, that could mean that it is pre-1963.

I’m not an expert on timex by any measure, but your bracelet is different than the one shown in the advertisement above. If it is indeed original to the watch, then it’s a very good idea to keep it.
As noted, expansion bands aren’t suited for activities in which you’ll be swinging your arms.
