WW2 military Bulova. Any info-or should I move to Pilot/Mil forum?

I friend of mine who I deal with occasionally showed me this watch he just had a customer sell to him claiming he "found it in some trash..". Anyway-its running well, seems to have an original yellow plastic crystal and probably is missing its sweep second hand. I can not find another like it with the same case back inscription though I think the watch is probably common and not particularly scarce. If I should move this to military-mod can do so, or not. Its just a small favour I said I would do to find out. I also told him I didn't think it would fetch more then a couple hundred USD but wasn't sure. Any info-thanks

Hi buddy, this should, as you rightly say, have a centre sweep hand. Just lik mine.

It should also have a case back like this.

The "ORD DEPT." dial should look like this:

    Or this.

    Still looks good though!

    Cheers, Bob.

So-your saying I should suggest to this friend that the case back on his watch may not be the original-or-doesnt match the proper dial? It doesn't really make sense that someone would switch a caseback as they don't usually 'fail'

Yes, either the case back has been changed or-which is actually more likely-a replacement movement/dial combo has been put in this case.
The Type A-11 has a 16 jewel movement (extra jewel in the indirect drive), and the 10AK in the ORD should be a plain 15 jewel movement.
The Type A-11 does not actually say "16 jewels" on the movement, but is anyway. Also has a hack mechanism and the ORD DEPT. does not.
Should date between 1941-1943, maybe 1944 at a push.

The movement in ORD watches wasn't really specified, and could vary depending on model:

The only movement used in the ORD DEPT. Bulova was the 10AK.
This was re-named the 10AKCSH (Centre Seconds Hacking) for the Type A-11.
