    Re: Zenith serial numbers

Sorry, the only ones who can tell you for certain are Zenith themselves. As a rough guide, providing that you are in all cases quoting the movement serial numbers (not the case serial numbers), one can state that:

    1. the serial numbers are not exactly linear. I.e. if you have #XXX made on Day ABC, then #XXX+1 won't be made on the same or next day. This is because the movements were numbered as they were produced but were then not used in series to make the watches. the dates Zenith release are usually the dates the watches were made.

    2. Zenith broke the 2 million mark around 1917, the 3 million mark around 1930 and the 4 million mark around 1950. Your first watch was therefore made before 1910, the second one a little before WWI, the next three in the late twenties, the next one around 1940 and the last two in the mid to late sixties or very early seventies.

I have this table from an Italian source, maybe Nicola at O&P, but I can't recall. My understanding is that it is assembled from information from Zenith regarding specific serial numbers. It does seem roughly in concordance with the information in your post Hartmut.

Write in english please....I'm italian too, but we aren't on italian forum, so you (me, and other foreigners) must write that everyone understands!
...so i know your work, and i've contributed recently, with my zenith. I think this is good, but can not be defined as "correct" because it is always a amatorial work: incomplete and not fully substantiated by official documents.

....anyway, thanks to have posted it on WUS.

I have posted this table in 'links and articles' so that it will be easier to find in future.

    Re: Zenith serial numbers

Finally confirmation of a large p.w. 18k gold hunter I believe Hartmut commented on year or more past as being newer than dates marked in it. Apparently correctly as 1915. Cannot always believe engraved dates on cases for actual age.
