Colt Quartz II second hand jumping - check under warranty?

I decided to wear the Colt Quartz this morning but the date wasn't set correctly so I changed it. I also aligned the minute hand forward ever so slightly as it was behind the markers when the second hand passed through 12.

Anyway, when I moved the crown back in again the second hand started jumping forward every 4-5 seconds. It has done this before but I didn't think anything of it.

It was like this for a minute or two and then it went back to normal. Very strange. The jumping second is normally to indicate the battery needs changed, right? Well this is a 2006 model Colt Quartz II with the 7 year battery life ....

I was thinking, it still has 2 months left under warranty and I'd like to get it checked out.

Do you have to go through an AD to get it sent in? If so, can it be a different AD from the one where I got it?

    Thanks for you help.

This is the way your CQII tells you it needs a new battery.

It must be one dodgy battery then to only last 2 years ...

It's supposed to last 8 years, isn't it?

Not as much as 8 years I would think but it shouldn't expire while still under warranty.

Yeah, on the Breitling web site it says the battery life is 8 years.

I should just reiterate that the second hand isn't jumping all the time. It jumped for a minute or two and then went back to normal. Has done twice and it is running normal now.

This happened to my daughter's B-Class also. A "new" battery started doing the same thing after only a few months. Had it replaced a couple of years ago and still running fine. Perhaps an intermittent contact point caused the problem. Worth a check under warranty or not.

Yeah, that's the battery EOL (end of life) indicator. Even though it may be a "new" watch as in when you purchased it, you have no idea how long that watch was at the store you bought it from, in their corporate merchandising, or even sitting at Breitling.

Double check your paperwork because typically warranties have nothing to do with battery changes...

Took it to the AD today and was told by the head watch tech. guy that he has seen this on a number of high end quartz watches and it is nothing to worry about.

I said I would like to get it check anyway just in case it started happening in 2-3 years time or even worse, if it started to fail altogether when the watch is out of warranty.

He said it is really not necessary so I thought, "fair enough, won't send it in." I'll trust his professional opinion. But GRRRR to him if it messes up!

I thought the warranty was only for a year but I have about 14 months left. Plenty of time to keep an eye on it.
