Just Purchased my First Breitling! A few ?'s...

I got a New SS Chronomat Evolution, Silver with Silver Subdials, I already cant stop starring at it! I have a few quick questions, because of what I do I probably wont be wearing the watch everyday... Its a crime I know..., Do I need to purchase a Watch Winder? Will it damage the Movement if it stops for a long period of time? Your responses are much appreciated. Thanks

    Congratulations!

Welcome on the forum, I hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.

Now for your question: what do you call 'a long period of time'? Sometimes watches sit for a year or more in a display at an Authorised Dealer (AD is the abbreviation we use here) and that doesn't seem to matter a lot.

If you leave it for several years, the lubricants in the watch would probably 'dry' or get to 'thick' and that does have an impact on wear and accuracy.

So, leaving it for a few weeks will not hurt the movement and if setting the date & time doesn't bother you, a watchwinder is not needed.

Oh, before I forget, try to post some pictures of your watch, that is allways appreciated overhere!

    Kind regards,

    Cinq

May I echo Cinq's welcome. I'm glad he answered your question because I'm one of the 'superquartz' loving sub group of B-1 owners here so winders are a mystery to me, but glad to see you here, congratulations on your purchase and be warned, the watch gazing doesn't wear off quickly!!

Congratulations on your new Breitling and Welcome Aboard!

You don't want your mechanical watch sitting idle for long periods of time. If that's the alternative, then I would highly recommend buying a watchwinder as they are a great convenience. You don't have to buy an expensive one either. Last Christmas I bought a Chinese-made 4-watch programmable winder and it's been serving me well.

Why invest in a winder, send it to me and I'll be certain to keep it wound.

Another alternative, higher the kid next door to come in and wind it for you every other day. Could prove cheaper than a winder.
