Pluton 3100 - fix or not?

I have a 3100 Pluton. The quartz movement does not work. The LCD does work. I found a shop that can repair it for somewhere in the neighborhood of $500-$600. Is it worth the cost and trouble to have it fixed then sell...or sell as is?

You can buy a replacement movement generally for less than $75 and pay a decent watch guy to install it for $100. I swap movements out on my kitchen table these are so easy. Here's an example donor watch.

Seriously, that’s what Breitling was stuffing in these watches?
    So I need a Miyota Y652
Will the watchmaker need any special sized gaskets/seals?

The Miyota Y652 was state of the art and one of the best quartz movements available when it came out in the 1980's. Many different watch brands used this movement which is why they're relatively easy to find. Breitling's prior experience with the Swiss ESA Y2 900.231 was a major bust as the Japanese pieces were much better which is why they went to them. You shouldn't need any special gaskets or seals unless you expect moisture exposure then better have them replaced. There's a small spring in the back of the Miyota movement that is compressed in the smaller watch cases. In order for the chime and alarm to be heard in the larger Breitling case you need to stretch that little spring out a bit so it contacts the case. Took me a couple of years to figure that out.

I think it is expensive considering you can buy the part and a good watch repairer will take care of the rest with little over a $100.

Thanks for the tip! I picked up a donor watch and my local watchmaker swapped it out for $95. Back in business.
