    A few Militare Chrono Questions?

    Hi,

I am in the market for a chronograph and three Anonimo chrono models have cxaught my eye:

    1) Militare Chrono 2007 SS
    2) Militare Chrono Drass 2007 DR
    3) Militare Chrono Flyback 2016

I have a few questions about these models and some of the Anonimo technologies used in them:

    1. Drass Finish: I understand this to be a multi-step oxidation process using acids to treat the surface of the steel followed by bead blasting. I am wondering about scatching of the surface. I know it it hardens the surface but I have seen DLC, PVD and tegimented finishes all scatch. I would like to hear owners experiences if possible.
    2. Kodiak Straps: I understand this to be a wax impregnated calf skin. I am interested in a watch that I can wear swimming. Will these hold up or am I better of with a Dynax black fabric strap?
    3. Clasps: Can anyone speak to the quality of their folding clasps vs. a standard tang clasp? Do the deployants operate with a release button of just friction?
    4. Lume: Do these Anonimos use C3 superluminova?
    5. General Quality: Can you speak to the quality of the movements, case, dial, straps, service etc. by this brand? These watches are not inexpensive at $6900, $7,400 and $7,850. I always hear about the cases, but nothing more.
    6. Other: I see that the flyback (aside from having a flyback mechanism) has a different pusher design, finer indices on the chapter ring. a lumed chrono second hand, and a display case back. Are there other differences?
    Thanks,

    Bob

Drass: I owned 1 Drass watch, and found it to be more durable than any other black watches I have owned. I also found the finish to be more even as well. I beleive the Drass is an actual finishing treatment of the Ox-Pro and more advanced and scratch resitant as well. I found the Drass to be VERY scratch resistant. It can still scratch, but so does Stainless.

Kodiak: I've owned several Kodiak straps and find them to be the most durable out there. Probably not the most comfy, but they keep their shape very well and hold up to moisture and regular wear. I probably wouldn't wear any leather strap swimming as a Nato or Zulu might hold up better. And at over $250 a pop, I'd rather just not do it! That being said, I've heard of people swimming in them without issue.

    Clasp: I haven't owned a deployment.

Lume: I too would like clarification.

Quality: The quality overall is very good and the case is top notch. Most movements are slightly modified ETA's, SW's and some have additional mods like Dubois Depraz or Soprod. I believe the Dino Zei line uses top grade movements. They keep great time. Service for me has been good. I had my Dino Zei serviced through Stoll & Co., and just recently sent in another for normal service. The service was great for me, and I'm waiting for my own 2007 Militare to come back home!

Other: I think you nailed the main differences on the Flyback...

    Hope this helps.

Thanks JV for your thoughtful response.

It sounds as if I should consider getting a watch on a Black Dynex Strap with White Stitch vs. a Black Kodiak Calfskin with Resd Stitch strap if swimming is in my future (I am not big on rubber). I had heard that the Kodiaks were wax impregnated and I did not know how resistant they were.

Drass is a better finish than the Ox Pro. The kodiak strap is still leather, hence, it will shrink. I had one that i just used for water, and it shrunk where it will fit a 20mm lug watch. For the clasp, not a big fan of the clasp, I had one that came with the watch and sold it a day later.

    Kmroldan,

Thanks for yur response. I have heard that the Aninomo buckle/clasp has sharp edges that can dig into some people's wrists. Is this what you are referring to? Just to clarify, did you sell the watch or the strap? If the later, what do you use today? Also, have you tried their deployant clasp?

    Thanks,

    Bob

The clasp I had on my Millemetri Rubber strap dug into my wirst and was quite uncomfortable on the first day I wore it. My skin must have got used to it as it lessened over the coming weeks, but I then move to a custom strap with it's own buckle. Dino Zei's do not have this issue with their buckle.

My Mille was drass and it is a very nice finish. It scuffs more so than scratches from what I've seen. Mine was well worn when I bought it, but I thought it was quite hardy though I'm quite careful with my watches. Judging by some of the marks on mine it would have taken a fair size hit to mark it as it had. Some images below which may be helpful.

The Militare Flyback is a gorgeous piece, and one I'd love to own one day.

I have a Militare Chrono in OxPro - so far so good over all quality is excellent in every way. No issues with the finish however I am careful with mine. The darkness and depth of the black is excellent.
Lume just ok. It is no Seiko or Panerai if that is what you are asking. It lasts for a few hours in total darkness. By morning you have nothing. Seiko and Panerais will last all night.
I had a deployment buckle wore it for less than an hour hated it. I use the factory tang buckles only on all my Anonimos.
Kodiak strap - I like very much for feal and finish. I have not gotten mine wet because as stated for 200-300 bucks I am just not taking the chance.

Re: A few Militare Chrono Questions?

DRASS FINISH : Ox-Pro ( Warm black Colour ) or Drass ( Dark color that resembles Titanium ) is not ANTISCRATCH this processes only improve resistance to corrosion and oxidation it also has an anti-reflective function for military applications... The drass process goes a step further than Ox-Pro since the watchcase is sandblasted to remove the top and less resistant layer... Again any of this processes are ANTISCRATCH.

    http://anonimousa.com/_downloads/oxPro.pdf

KODIAK STRAPS : In my personal experience the BEST Calfskin STRAP ever, comfortable, durable, resistant and good looking. The greater construction for waterproofing and also longevity, thick and sturdy, ages gracefully; and gives the watch 'character' as well.
You said Swimming... that is nothing for Kodiak's. This Anonimo Straps are build like a tank, you can be a professional diver and expose the strap to a non friendly enviroment and always the strap is a winner, for deskdivers or swimming persons is the most durable strap... The Kodiak's always so far looks better than the other ones... Only thay need to be rinse on water thats it no solvents o detergent because you can damage the Kodiak process on the strap.
DYNEX STRAP : Is cool also, really nice, comfortable and durable as well only bad side to me is always present a fibers around the holes like a ripping off just a little but that drive me crazy
RUBBER STRAP : The best in the market also, soft, thick and durable, his fresh Vanilla scent is always present and always looks new.

CLASP : Well, deployant is the winner... Is made of SS so the quality is assured. Your strap will be so happy if you get one of this, less stress for your strap, easy of operate is not only friction It has a two security pushers to be released, Also a plus on the deployant is the Anonimo logo engraved... remember many options outside with the same purpose.
TANG BUCKLE : Made of SS quality is the same but... exist two types the older one and the recent one ( around 5 years ago ) It became a bit bigger and the height has been increased too. Also the word ANONIMO on the back is engraved much nicer.
for some people works any, but for me I like better the recent one because is thicker the only bad side is the lugs can hurt your wrist again for some people and can be a easy fix if you polish in order to make them round.

LUME : For sure is not C3 luminova, thinking I don't know may be wrong... just Luminova.

    Luminova
