    Limited Editions and Prototypes

Since I did not want to high jack the other thread with the side discussion on Prototypes. Here is the official statement on Limited Editions and prototypes in the back of the 2010 catalog:

"Anonimo watches are identified by model and a serial number. Every Limited edition production begins with a series of watches identified as Prototype (p)00/29 of no more than 30 watches. These models are the beginning of all limited editions, and while there may be a small aesthetic refinements during this production they all function at 100%.

Limited editions all begin with 00 (00/99-00/199 e.g.) and conclude with a specific ending serial number which identifies the total amount of a specific model/style manufactured. All limited editions are unique and specific to only comprise the exact quantity identified by the model and specific serial number.

These strict guidelines followed by Anonimo make our watches a treasure for most passionate watch enthusiasts around the world."

Thanks to Anonimo US for pointing me to this. I've never made it past drooling over the pictures.

    Re: Limited Editions and Prototypes

I really wonder why Anonimo uses the term prototype. By definition prototype is one of the first units manufactured of a product, which is tested so that the design can be changed if necessary before the product is manufactured commercially. Prototypes can be built to test a specific element but may not have some of the other features fully implemented. Must be lost in translation.

The one Anonimo prototype I have seen was obviously a preproduction piece that did not have everything done. Without testing there was no way to access it's water tight capability and it had no documentation or packaging. I would question how this person came to posses the watch. I don't believe Anonimo ever intended it to be out for sale as a final watch. The person who had it posted pulled the listing on ebay after a few members here and myself sent them a few questions about it, and it has never surfaced again. This does not appear to follow the official guidance above. This is why I had concerns about watches labeled prototype.

    Re: Limited Editions and Prototypes

I talked with Anonimo USA today and we both don't understand why the term prototype is used for P series but that has stayed going forward. It was noted that some of the older P series and some of the new may be less than 30 total. So pretty much all Dino Z are P series.

From my discussion with them it appears the prototype that I had seen was probably a show only mock-up for photos and the seller somehow got it.

    Re: Limited Editions and Prototypes

    Source : Wikipedia

Prototype is an original type, form, or instance of something serving as a typical example, basis, or standard for other things of the same category.

Differences between a prototype and a production design
In general, prototypes will differ from the final production variant in three fundamental ways:
Materials. Production materials may require manufacturing processes involving higher capital costs than what is practical for prototyping. Instead, engineers or prototyping specialists will attempt to substitute materials with properties that simulate the intended final material.
Processes. Often expensive and time consuming unique tooling is required to fabricate a custom design. Prototypes will often compromise by using more flexible processes.
Lower fidelity. Final production designs often require extensive effort to capture high volume manufacturing detail. Such detail is generally unwarranted for prototypes as some refinement to the design is to be expected. Often prototypes are built using very limited engineering detail as compared to final production intent.

BUT, I know many many Anonimists who owns Prototypes P & XP series for sure... and they are so proud to have it.

People in one or other way get Anonimo Prototypes because they went to sell from different sources, but i think that the ANONIMO Prototypes are made as the final production piece with a little of differences and variants like hands, crowns etc. but the QUALITY of Craftmanship and Materials also Passion to Built the amazing pieces, always will be the same.

So people who had Prototypes I think they are very lucky this pieces are nice to have if compared to Limited Editions becuase the Prototypes don't go more than 30 on Anonimo and Dino Zei no more than 19.

In other Hand will be nice if ANonimo - Italy can say something about it.

This is actually Anonimo's actual text and statement on the subject in my first post in this thread (in " "). So they did.

    Re: Limited Editions and Prototypes

Well As i said also exist serial numbers with XP, and would be nice if Anonimo - Italy can clarify the diversity of Prototypes.
