Panerai does bronze! A marketing opportunity for Anonimo?

Yes, its true - Panerai today announced a BRONZE 47mm Submersible to be exhibited a the upcoming 2011 SIHH.

Check it out here: Officine Panerai 2011 Novelties They're using words such as 'patina' and actually have a close-up shot showing the watch with patina.

I propose to Anonimo management, that they seize upon this news immediately, and begin promoting the fact they as Florence military watch designers long pioneered bronze casing.

Please share your comments, which may provide more insight to Anonimo on how they can blunt this news from Panerai.

for sure this is a plus for anonimo. they need to highlight the fact they were the first in the industry to use bronze cases, because now many morepeople will be aware of the fact that this material can be used for such a purpose.

by the way, the buckle is in titanium (not bronze), just like gerald genta has done for the gefica.

Holy crap! That is a great looking watch and now I NEED one. Time to get on the waiting list.
As already mentioned Anonimo could and should piggyback on the tidal wave that will surly rise when this hits the streets.
I guess when I get my PAM382 I'll be able to use my extra bronze buckle that I have sitting here.
    Cheers,
    Rob

Unhappy Re: Panerai does bronze! A marketing opportunity for Anonimo?

Ok, I just noticed the green dial, what the hell? Why not a tobacco or black dial?

Good looking watch. The Bronze works really well with the Nautical look in my opinion... though if it were my money I'd still go for a Bronze Marlin.

That is too funny. a green dial, I just noticed that.

I maybe wrong, but Anonimo was not the first watch company to use Bronze material for their watch cases, but I know they make more models with Bronze. Now, will this make Anonimo more popular? I don't know, but that will be interesting to see.

Funny thing, a lot of Pam Fans really don't know to much about Anonimo's. IMHO. A true pam fan knows about Anonimo. I would like to see where this will lead Anonimo as a company and they really needs stay separate from Panerai.

I like this but not certain about a bronze rotating bezel and the locking lever.

Remeber Panerai is not an Italian watch company. Hasn't been for a long time. Please see below:

Compagnie Financičre Richemont SA - About Richemont

Officine Panerai - Laboratorio di Idee

These two have not really been linked since the 1990's (I think 1997 was the last tie with regards to watches, but I don't have the book here)

Remember the word Patina is common for the oxidation on some materials so is not part of Anonimo.

Anonimo don't need any kind of publicity thru another brand Anonimo and Panerai are unique pieces the only thing i can see is the Italian heritage, very nice 47 mm. Case on the Pam so i dreaming now with a timepiece from Anonimo wich such size and a bigger dial.

Anonimist don't carr about another bronze cases... We see it longtime ago first !

Re: Panerai does bronze! A marketing opportunity for Anonimo?

Panerai is still headed by an Italian and from what I understand still employs its older designers on a consulting basis.

I've read for instance that the original designer of the Egiziano was consulted with to support last year's re-issue of the Egiziano. Also, I recall reading that its design headquarters remain in Italy, (Milan). Also, Panerai's historical material and its most important meeting place for Paneristi is the historical storefront in Florence/Firenze.

And one more thing that might be relevant, Dino Zei was bound by a non-competition agreement with Richemont. He was precluded from working with another watch company for 5 years after the buyout - giving the 'new' Panerai plenty of time to watch the competition closely. (Panerai once produced a bronze prototype from I recall the 80s, BTW.)

So while Panerai's manufacture is Swiss located, much of its heart and some of its most important tentacles remain in Italy.

I cited Panerai's new use of the term patina as mimicking Anonimo's long-established messaging/marketing of this fact about bronze. This is new marketing language for Panerai, whereas for Anonimo it has been an effective message for a long time. Just an important marketing comparison, so to speak.
