    **Off Topic** Subject: Language What is this? Spanish? Adan? Mucios Gracias Amigo!

    Hi Guys -

    For some strange reason I am getting an increased load of emai;'s that are not entering the SPAM box.

    Just received this one, and I think it's Spanish.

    Adan and all Spaniards and speakers, please help me:-S

    Original email below:

    Prezado/Prezada,

    Fui indicado como representante da Associação Internacional de Gestores de Emergências (IAEM) para liderar a formação de um "chapter" (uma divisão) no Brasil.

    Dentre alguns dos benefícios que os associados poderão usufruir, aqueles que mais interessam aos brasileiros são:

    - Acesso à matérias e artigos especializados sobre o assunto;
    - Oportunidade de organizar seminários e cursos com especialistas de reconhecida experiência e competência internacionais;
    - Oportunidade de participação em eventos internacionais, ampliando nosso network e conhecimento sobre o assunto;
    - Visibilidade internacional, face possibilidade de convite para apresentação de "cases" brasileiros;
    - Valorização profissional, em função do investimento em educação continuada sobre gestão de emergências.

    A filiação é facilmente formalizada, através da inscrição no site www.iaem.com.

    Nosso chapter será automaticamente reconhecido a partir do registro de 75 profissionais.

    Se o assunto não é do seu interesse, por favor me ajude a divulgar esta mensagem para darmos o primeiro passo no reconhecimento internacional dos profissionais brasileiros dedicados à segurança corporativa e dos negócios.

    Grato,

    Fernando Marinho

    Actually, that's Portuguese, but it's so similar to Spanish that any Spanish-speaker should be able to read it.

    Looks like a scam to me, haha.

    Yes, it's brazilian portuguese, and as a spanish-speaker, I understand it all, except it's so "spammy" that I don't bother reading and trying to absorb it all, less translating it for you (I offer my apologies for substituting my personal preferences to yours, but I assure you it's a pure waste of time, like all of these spam emails, a true nuisance)...

    At my (Antwerp shipping biz) office, we'd been receiving the stone age versions of these "Nigerian" spams since at least 20 years: first by letter, then by fax, now by email. I even responded to some of them, once by passing it on to the Belgian federal police (I'm sure that was a great move, with resounding results!) and once by replying "go .... your sister". All a waste of time...

    Yeah, I read it and that's what came to mind -- the "Nigerian spam" messages -- pure waste of time indeed.

    ¡Hola Adán!

    Visto que estamos siguiendo nuestro camino al exterior del tema, estoy aprovechendo de la situación para ofrecer mis salutaciones desde Amberes, anciana ciudad imperial del Reino de España...

    (translated as : given we are continuing our way on the outside of the topical, I take this opportunity to offer my regards from Antwerp, ancient imperial city of the Kingdom of Spain).

    Let's approach the topic!
    We used to be, in the 16th century, one of the largest cities of the Spanish Empire, in fact, the emperor (Carlos V, same person as Carlos I of Spain) was born in Ghent.

    He didn't know what TIME it was, though (hey, we're ON TOPIC ! )

    There are only 10 kind of people. Those who understand binary and those who don't.
