    5600 - 691 question

I pulled this out of the junk box and saw that it has the 691 Module. WUS and Google tell me this is vintage. Since it works, I was going to clean it up and add it to my 3 other G-Shocks. The battery has to be over 10 years old. Here is my question: Should I hold onto this watch since it has the 691 module or, does it hold little value? The Internet returns values all over the place.

Sorry if this is a rookie G-Shock question. New to the G-Shock Forum

    Thanks!

    Re: 5600 - 691 question

Older DW-5600C models ARE desirable and collectible for some people, which (along with the watch's condition) explains the wide array of values on the internet. Depending on your point of view, the lack of spare parts can be a good or bad thing, and makes restoring these older "screwback" models somewhat difficult. Here are just a FEW of the many "5600C restoration threads" here:

I'm definitely in the minority here, but I would rather have a newer version with a modern backlight, but a LOT of people here love squares and especially that model!

    Re: 5600 - 691 question

There seem to be less 691 than the later 901 module DW5600 watches around, and the polished case back is nice.

Values vary a lot with condition, and I'd say your bezel is about to crumble e.g. if you tried to remove it to clean/polish it properly. Assuming you don't have the original packaging etc I'd say it'll never be worth a fortune even if you give it a thorough restore, but for very little outlay (and a small amount of elbow grease) you could have a very respectable additional to your collection!

All "in my opinion" (and as the owner of five screwback DW5600's it probably best to ignore my advice unless you also want to end up more of them than you can wear...).

I am currently looking at getting a 901, hopefully I can get it, and will eventually work on restoring it! Best of luck with your 691 endeavors!

    Re: 5600 - 691 question

Nice find. I am a 5600c addict and I love restoring them. What you have is a DW-5600C-1V module 691 with a mirror caseback. The bezel has some missing parts and cracks and you will end up turning this bezel into pieces if you try to remove it. The glass seems fine to me, no scratches only dirt. You can remove those dirt by giving a soap bath with a soft bristle toothbrush. If you desire to put a bezel, brazillian bezel ($20 US) is good enough for me. I can't afford the original one which is as expensive as a GB-5600B. You can still get an original Casio band at ebay, probably $20US. Get the one for 5600C/5200/5000 not the newer 5600e straps. The strap/band that you need has a 18mm lug width, the newer 5600e has a 16mm lug width. Putting a band and bezel will make this watch beautiful and wearable.

IMO, the monetary value of this watch (the current look) is less than $30 USD (including shipping). Selling it at ebay, and you will end up $21 or less. Let's just say, you spend shipping fee for $5, ebay fee $3, Paypal fee $1. Now, can you buy a decent vintage screwback watch for $21? So, if I were you, I will definitely keep this watch.

Just to show one of a base price at ebay: DW5600c + DW5200

Case disintegrated while cleaning (I was warned). In much better shape than I thought.

    Re: 5600 - 691 question

    Looking good

All 4 bezels screws are present which is good (for the love of god do not attempt to unscrew them!), and the parts you need are easy to find (Brazilian bezel which comes with a new o-ring seal can be had through Facebook, spring bars cost pennies and proper Casio straps are still sold and are nicer than the one that they give you with the Brazilian bezel).

The screen looks in decent condition too.

Definately the right decision to keep it and fix it up!

Thanks for the warning on the screws. Kit is ordered.

    Thanks again!
