    6k for a Casio?

Can someone please explain to me what makes this Casio worth 6 grand? I've always been a fan of G-Shock but with this one they are in the entry level Rolex price territory. I've read the description but I still do not understand the reason for the high price.

Because Casio thinks someone will pay that much for it.

I don't think any watch is worth that much, unless it is made with thousands of dollars of precious metals. Casio is just trying to be a part of the luxury watch market and they think they can do that with technology and limited edition designs. Maybe they can?

If I had that kinda money to blow, I'd rather buy 40-50 basic Gs..

To be honest, they are offering something new if you look at this type of market, few thousands dollars for a watch. Most of them are automatics, but these are solar and most importantly, they (hopefully) wont break and shatter if they fall on the floor. And it kinda eliminates the need for expensive movement servis once every few years.

But on the other hand, when people buy watches at this price, they are also buying the brand itself, not just the watch. For most people it will still be just a Casio...

To be fair, this is a very limited edition watch, the regualr MRG is half the price. Like most limited edition watches, they tend to command a significant price premium

While I would never spend 6k on that watch, I would never spend 6k on a Rolex or Omega either. Casio obviously has done the research to know they can sell it at that price if they market it properly, just like the other high-end watch marketers.

That's my thought exactly. All watches are overpriced, people are just willing to pay for prestige or brand value (nothing wrong with that, just not for me). As kung mentions, unless a watch has some commodity value with precious metals/stones the sum of the parts is WAY less than the price.

But Casio arnt a high end watch maker thats the difference, these are just machine produced watches with very limited human contact in assembly, not to mention they probably cost 100 bucks to make, seriously who would spend 6k on a Casio, they would have to be totally out of their mind or have cash to throw away but i agree with you, Casio knows they can sell them, Seiko has been doing the same over the last few years too.
    cheers
