Question For or against G-Shock with Picture EL-back light.

This is just my opinion:-D , I have always thought that Casio G Shock watches were tought and reliable tools. Used by the army, policeman, fireman, astronaut and tradesman etc.. Even in the user manual state "THIS WATCH HAS BEEN DEVELOPED FOR FULL HEAVY DUTY USE. So why do they use picture /writting with the EL-back light:-S . I can understand if they use it in the Baby-G series. I can't really picture a Deltra Force/ service-man reading his watch at night with a cute little angle /devil in the back ground. There have been time when I thought, wow that Casio G Shock looks cool, only to be put off by the picture in the EL back-light.
Some words used by casio g shock:
Lucky Strike, Fila, Ken-wood,Stussy, Nissian, Nismo and Honda.
    Some picture:
Ape, Devil, Angle, Dophines, Whales, Drangon, Frog-man, Mole-man, Bats and Turtles.
Is it just me, or are there people who share the same opinion .

    Hi Mick,

I think a Deltra Force/ service-man wearing a LTD ED is G -Shock as his daily beater is a bit strange I remember a haighly placed US ARMY man (I believe it was a General called Sanchez) wearing a DW-6600. I believe that one will do all right (or a DW-6900 or DW-5600E). There are a lot of G-Shock's for different occasions. I think EL pictures are great, although it doesn't always make the time more readable.

    Cheers,

    Sjors

Hey Sjors, on this subject, my green-blue ish G-lide I got on ebay (DW-9000) has "G-Lide" written on the backlight, which surprised me. Do you know if this Is this normal for DW-9000?

    Hope you're enjoying vacation ;)

    Hi Pritch,

most basic G-Lides from around 1997 - 2000 have this G-Lide logo in their EL. I think it's a greal logo and is one of the least disturbing ones in reading a display.

i have nothing against EL logo

i actually think they are great, as long as they don't over power the time telling (which i found in some cases and they become annoying ... )

Agree 100%. From a purely functional standpoint, a backlight should add no irrelevant pattern to the display you are trying to read.

Less gimmicky than say, a hologram projected above the surface of the face, but I'd suspect that would sure to be a popular feature among collectors as well... ICERC watch face turns into an ocean, dolphin leaps from the surface, announces the time, and splashes back in. The Holo-G.

But then, why would such a person be wearing a limited edition watch in the first place? You don't take limited edition watches with EL lights to do such things :-X

Re: For or against G-Shock with Picture EL-back light.

I have noticed that the solar powered G's with the dimmer EL and EL logo are harder to read the time. I have a ICERC Frogman with the whale logo, and it is very hard for my eyes to focus on the time when lit at night.B-)

However, I do have an DW-6600 that has the G logo. The EL is so bright that even with the logo in the background, I can easily tell the time.

So EL logos are cool, but only if the time can be easily read at night.
