All original DW5500 on the bay

Nearly crapped myself when I saw this. Someone selling an all original DW5500 with the bezel and strap intact. It's in pretty rough shape but damn... it's currently going for $1900, out of reach for me, and I imagine out of reach for most, but this is such a rare watch I figured I had to share it with you guys, I've searched ebay regularly for a long time and this is the first time I've seen one pop up.

Yeah, I saw it a week or so ago. The buttons are peeling off (they always do, it seems). Very rare to see one with the original bezel. If you buy it, better seal it in lucite, otherwise if you accidentally sneeze on it, it will fall apart and lose $1500 in value.

If I had $2000 to spend right now... I wouldn't buy it. You can even touch it without damaging it. And it's not really in a condition to be a shelf queen...

What I'm suprised is the price and the story, seems like seller did his research before listing. For someone who got this watch as a gift 20 years ago he know how to price it...

Ridiculous, it is only worth a fraction of the current price.

The bezel is shot and cannot be replaced. One of our members on here has two DW-5500s, which he bought for a fraction of that price because the bezels had rotted.

I would never buy one of these even if it was in good condition because the resin mix is hopeless and WILL break losing a huge proportion of its value. Just not worth it.

I'm only somewhat familiar with the newer release of the original. I did not know that this model was originally a screwback. It's a shame that the bezel cannot be replaced. :(

I am sure many of us have been keeping an eye on that one.
He keeps dropping the price every time it doesn't sell.
I think posted a short thread too a while back too.

I played around with this model too, which I bought for about $70. I tried to put on a g5500 band and bezel

Not the best- big gaps between bezel and band but I can wear it around.
Serial no 004985 is pretty cool /low too

On the wrist this thing is lovely!

Seems like there are still reasonable people in this world...

Just remembered I saved the original ad in my bookmarks and now I looked at it and it was relisted and then sold in auction for $345. Still overpriced, but atleast it's not $1000+ like usual.

Re: All original DW5500 on the bay

I can attest to experiencing resin rot... not with the DW-5500, but with other CASIO watch parts. I just had a beautiful NOS TW-7100 strap break on me. The strap is very flexible with NO SIGN of cracking anywhere. I flexed all sections of the strap just to make sure. So I'm out wearing it the other day and my watch falls off... because one of the straps cracked cleanly into two pieces. Mystifying. So even if you have a DW-5500 in pristine shape and even tested the resin for flex, the parts could fall apart at any minute.
