altimeter watches still a security risk?

I remember a while back reading that the ABC watches or even Riseman watches were being closely monitored by some airport security officials, since they viewed such watches as a security risk for flights.

(Of course, they do not detect "true" altitude since the elevation is calculated through air pressure. As the air cabin is pressurized, the calculation is meaningless.)

Anyone know of any recent updates to this?

I thought it had to do with a bunch of terrorists wearing F-91W's?

I've travelled with ABC watches many many times over the years and have yet to encounter a problem.

Well I usually take it off too, just to be safe. I remember reading some articles before saying that there were cases where the security personnel actually confiscated the ABCs.

I do not think they ever really were a security risk. Probably mostly something spread though the internet. I have had mine with me on multiple occasions, and there have been no indications of any concern at all.

Maybe it was just a hoax after all, from 2005.

I can't imagine all the security guards would have to memorise the look of every single ABC watch ever created and stop and examine a watch is unsure. There is no way it can be a security risk! Just because it gives you the pressure, altitude or compass bearing? What bad can come of that?
