... I picked mine up pre-owned (saving $$$) and looked at the posts on site here when these first came out. Most weren't very positive. Maybe it was/is the price. I can understand this. But it IS a Great G I think. Just wondering if any else even has one  Cheers -Ronbo
I'd been thinking of asking the exact same question during the last couple of days. You've saved me the effort!
We haven't seen many of them. What do you think of yours? I propose that the potentially different strap feel / suppleness is why people have been reluctant to order without seeing one in the flesh. Carbon Fibre implies a cold, stiff material to me at least!
Hi - I really don't notice much difference in the feel of this strap versus the regular resin. Maybe a just bit stiffer. The only thing I really don't care for is the writing all over the strap stating that it is carbon fiber lol. Perhaps one day there will be a carbon fiber Frogman eh ! Cheers -Ronbo
I think they're fantastic watches. They're so light you don't know you're wearing them and the stiff strap actually keeps the shape round when on your wrist. I'm really sad I'm letting mine go... but I highly recommend them.
The strap is glossy... the lettering is applied to the outside of the strap, but seems well-done, and scratch resistant. Maybe there's a thin coating over it? Hard to tell...
I enjoyed mine a lot (the positive display version). Ultimately I thought it was a touch bold as an everyday wearer and passed it on to a new fan. But it's a cool watch! Probably the price is part of its relative unpopularity, exasperated by the exchange rate. And frankly I've found its pointless to try and talk people in to the value of watches they "just don't get". Because yeah, you "get it" or you don't... no harm, no foul.
But can you confirm if the straps actually contain carbon fiber, or is it just the printed pattern on top of the resin (there were some previous models like this, if I remember correctly)?
In hindsight, probably not worth $300+, but I think you can get the S5600 for under $300. Only the B model is more expensive. I do think the carbon fiber parts are cool, they feel stronger and the overall watch is ridiculously light.
I have ordered one, but I'm thinking of changing the bezel for the standard GW-M5600 version...and possibly the strap too.
I just really like the bit in the middle!
I bought one with the intention of swapping the strap and bezel for the standard GW-M5600 parts, but now I don't think I will! The watch is less "blingy" than I had expected and I am very happy with it.
That is an absolutely awesome watch. I would buy one if it weren't for the words all over the strap. Is it possible to remove them, I wonder, without damaging the watch? Normally, I like when the straps have writing on them, but in this case it just seems like it's showing off!
If the strap is printed like the standard resin ones (and i see no reason it should not), the printing on the straps is nearly impossible to remove.
No chemical way (that is not agresive to the resin) was able to dissolve the paint. I tried on some of my dye and mod projects you may have seen here.
I guess it is a silk screen or pad print (Tampon-Druck in german, don´t know the correct english term). It is applied with a solvent based paint that will bond really well with the resin.
the only way to remove those paint (in my personal experience) is to media blast or buff the parts. this will destroy the factory finish. I have read you can polish the resin to it´s original shine with slow working polishing and a cotton or linnen cloth but have not yet tested it, as the very matte media blasted surface was the look i was after on the mods i have done.
I will have a look if i can find pics of before/after parts and add them.
On a bynote: If you dye printed parts, the printed lettering will not get dyed completely but only take a hue of the dye colour you use.
sorry for getting OT. I really like the CF strap but would like it to be opaque black - just added strength without the bling factor.
I'm pretty sure that DW-5600E strap and bezel are the same as the GW-M5600's, and here is a GW-M5600 that has had a strap and bezel swap with a GW-S5600:
I just got one of these (saw a deal too good to pass up from an ebay seller). I am very happy with it so far. In case anyone is wondering, the letters cannot be removed, even with pure acetone. They don't seem to be under the band, so I'm not sure what type of printing process they used, but whatever it is...it is made to last. I doubt the letters will rub off even with extended wear. You might be able to remove the letters with a stronger solvent, but this would dull the gloss nature of the strap. This watch is extremely light and comfortable.
Just wanted to post my impressions now that I have been lucky enough to acquire this model. WOW, this has to be one of the lightest watches out there... literally you could be convinced it's one of those livestrong yellow bracelets if your eyes were closed. It's crazy light and because of the stiffness of the band it sits off the wrist some and when worn a tad loose it really is something you could almost forget you are wearing. I have the S5600 positive display model and it's definitely a cool model and by a large margin the lightest watch I will probably ever own.
