Atomic timekeeping question - Does your watch sync regularly? Every night?

    Hi, G-friends:

I'm in Edmonton, Alberta (1570 km, 980 miles) from the Fort Collins, CO transmitter. I live well within the 3,000 km/2,000 mile range of the time signal transmitter, according to the Casio owner's manual.

I just acquired a Gulfman GW9100-1 with atomic timekeeping.

Does your G with atomic timekeeping CONSISTENTLY, each night, sync with whatever transmitter your watch picks up (U.S., U.K., Jpn)??

I've owned atomic Gs before (GW002KAs) and never had any problems syncing with the time signal. In fact, the 002KAs would sync just lying on the dresser (well away from an EAST-facing window.)

I've had my Gulfman for only a few days. For the first two nights, I placed the watch in a SOUTH-facing window (facing towards Fort Collins from Edmonton). Both nights, the Gulfman FAILED to sync.

Last night, I put the Gulfman in an EAST-facing window (which is NOT in the direction of Fort Collins), and it synced properly. Yay!

What's your experience in the consistency of your watch's ability to sync?

Was my Gulfman's failure to sync due to weird atmospheric conditions? Do the transmitters sometimes experience technical problems in which signal strength might be weaker occasionally? Both nights were clear, no cloud cover, if that makes a difference.

I'm just curious why the watch didn't sync the first two nights. BTW, I tried a manual sync, mid-day, two days running, outdoors; both attempts unsuccessful.

Happy to hear your collective experiences.

    Cheers.

    Tim

Yes, it does. In the London area from the UK transmitter, and in Krakow from the German transmitter.
I used to list my watches here until I realised it ruined people's Google searches...

I have never had a problem with the auto-syncing, and I'm in NE Ohio, USA. They would sync every night/morning from a watch box towards the middle of my room. I never bothered putting them on any window sill.

A manual sync during the day would require me to put the watch on a windowsill of a West (towards CO) facing window, most likely due to all the interference during the day.

Only had mine a few days here in the U.K. but from Devon it syncs perfectly.

It shows a signal strength of level 3 day or night when I'm doing it manually and I'm about 300 miles away, I think, from the transmitter.

    Every night at home.

Local conditions, particularly in the edge regions of the US, can cause problems. In Manhattan, for example, I get a sync about once per week.

Re: Atomic timekeeping question - Does your watch sync regularly? Every night?

I´m 600km away from the german sender.
If the watch is upright (casio label on top) and facing south i get a sync every night.
If the watch is laying on the bezel or on the buttons- no reception.
What i discovered at my Mudman atomic: if the watch is in stopwatch mode- no reception! I didnt tried this on my other atomic Gs.

My GWM5600 has synced successfully every night since I got it except for one night when I had worn it to sleep. I must have been moving too much when it went to sync as it has synced several other times when sleeping.

I normally have it inside a wood storage box and it syncs fine. But I have tried to manually sync during the day outside and not been able to do it.

    Thanks for your replies, everybody.

Especially dudegalea. Knowing that in Manhattan your watch syncs only about once per week puts gives me some relief there probably isn't a problem with my four day old Gulfman.

I guess my DW002KAs spoiled me, since they synced every night with boring regularity. I don't know if the Gulfman's receiver is 'different' or if there have been some unusual atmospheric conditions or technical problems with the transmitter.

Anyhow, no worries now that I know some folks' Gs don't sync every single night.

    Cheers from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

    Tim
