    Cant decide - GW-9400 or GWG-100-1aer

    Im botanist and mountaineer.
    Need a good timekeeper.
Need a watch that endures colds, wets and windy mountain harsness
Not sure if I need a hefty four/triple sensor watch
At home i wear the lovely white ga-100, very happy with it.

Eventually it is a Digital versus Analogic choice. I'll take the Rangeman for the ABC functions.

I have had a Rangeman and really enjoyed it. Especially the shortcut for the stopwatch. Now if you need sensors and lightness, why not give a chance to the Garmin Instinct ?
My two cents, as I consider the Instinct as a some kind of upgrade Rangeman: solid and with useful informations like a barometer/altimeter and in your outdoor job: a GPS !

Beautiful dog by the way and great pictures !

------------> just an important note; I am 63, have some eye catharact ----> that neo-brite screen on gwg-100 might be the deciding factor, also that radio-control time, I live in souhtern norway, well in range of TWO towers....

Get the GW-9400. Sooner or later you'll be bitten by the g-shock bug and end up buying one anyway, so why not get it now, the quintessential g-shock watch for the last decade.

This is where I live, lots of snow and cold for 6-7 months. We just recently got ...springtime

Ad Garmin-- it is a no go, I have lived with Fenix 3 and a vivio something -- I was unable to operate it, couldnt see them small digits.

The 9400 is very tempting, I really need to know how that one behaves in pitch dark evening, and most important, will I see the digits in low-light evenings, heavy shadows
I once owned a prg - 40, a protrek bought in 2001, I really didnt like it - back then I dint understand why it couldnt show correct temp, the other two - alti and baro sensor never seemed to worrk properly .-(

I might just buy both, very tempting

You’ll get a lot more features with the Rangeman than you would from the gwg-100, and for less money. Having said that, they’re both good choices.

Having the compass and barometer functions can be VERY handy for we older outdoors men whether in cold Norway or Upstate New York. I now have about a dozen Casio watches, but if I had to have 1 for everything, it would be the 9400

Looks like starting with 9400 might be an idea, might be tempting to get a special:

Even if it cheap at home, is it recomended to try to get a deal at eBay -- like Hong Kong watch seller -- or USA, even if postage is expensive

So -- anyoone with a good video showing 9400 in dark?
I have only seen this one:

I vote 9400. My eyes are old and tired too. I don't understand on the Garmin though. I have been considering it for that very reason. As @Nemo_Sandman says it has all the ABC functions and it has a large readable display.

The 9400 is a great watch, no doubt about it. However you mention difficulty in seeing digits. The Rangeman's digits are not overly large. You might want to consider one of the digital Protreks which typically have HUGE digits!! Perhaps the PRW-3100, 3500/3510, or something similar. You definitely should have no trouble reading those digits! And the Proteks still give you the ABC features. Some have sunrise/sunset also. Won't have the one-touch stopwatch or the 'time stamp' features of the 9400 though..

    Here's my PRW-3100FC:
