Casio analog with Oceanus 5 band movement !

    Hi !

I found on the Casio Europe site that there is a new Casio watch with the Oceanus 5 band / tough solar movement ! Only 299 euros on ebay...

    http://www.casio-europe.com/euro/wat...-m610de-1aver/

Basically an Oceanus on the cheap !

Do you know if / when we can buy in the US ?

    Thanks !

It looks to be almost identical to the 5 motor WVQ600 series already available in the US but with the 1100 Giez module instead of the Giez 1000 module. The 1100 shows shows the day instead of the world time in the 3:00 dial, and it's 5-band atomic instead of just Japan and US atomic.

I bought one of the blue models for my dad for $170US. It's been excellent in every respect so far.

Yes, I hope it will come to the US with all bands instead of US/Japan only...

The module is 4766, and it's NOT identical to the GIEZ 1100 (module 4777) in that it lacks the alarm.

The Oceanus has yet another module that can show the tide.

Also, this watch is rated water resistant 50 m only.

    Hope this helps, Arno

this is an "older" Manta for Europe, I guess, no Titanium, though

130g for the steel version is too much if you ask me and 50m water resistant is only for rain, not swimming...

50m WR means 5 bar pressure resistant and that is more than plenty for swimming, you can even dive with it.

thank you, but my german isn't so bad

scuba diving means, that you (respectively the watch) are INSIDE a hull and breathing a mixture of oxygene and helium. it means that the watches are not made to withstand the helium molecules because they can penetrate the gasket and blow the crystal. its got nothing to do with the water pressure.

again, a 5bar watch means that it can withstand this presure which is is equal to 50m (well 40m actually, because the air pressure is already 1 bar) depth in water. that is by far enough for swimming, snorkling and most diving. it is a myth and also false claimed by casios description, that the pressure rises significantly if one is taking fast movements under the water surface. no one is capable of moving the arms THAT fast. to increase the pressure significantly, you would have to move the arms with several hundred kilometers per hour.

    From a G-Shock manual:

50m water resistant: swimming, car washing etc - yes
    snorkeling, diving, etc - no

200m water resistant: swimming, car washing etc - yes
snorkeling, diving etc, scuba diving - yes (except at depths that require helium/oxygen gas)
