    Casio DW-5600C-1V original bezel...

Why Casio has ceased to produce the first cult G-Shock's ( and their parts ) shaped like those of that period if there are still so desirable? Modern reissues it's not the same...

The 5600Cs ceased production in 1996, and the bezels ceased production in 2006, a full ten years after the end of production. I suppose that Casio didn't see any further need or value in continuing production on parts for the vintage watches. There's a lot of them still in active use and in collections for sure that could use them, but Casio likely won't see the value in those.

Pretty much^ Casio would rather people buy current watches than perpetuate used watch sales.

I really am perplexed by apologists for Casio's incredibly shrewd decisions such as the one to stop making resin for the old 5600c's, or any vintage model. Sure, it would have an effect of sales of new 5600e's and similar models, but the damage to sales would be insanely small. Furthermore, having working models from the 80's being worn and showcased on the internet in perfect working condition would do nothing except further G-Shock's reputation for longevity, reliability, and ruggedness, which would boost sales for newer models.

It would also help their public image, as many truly loyal fans of Casio who once fell in love with the ideals of owning and using a G-Shock for what it truly is, and not just because of the latest models and fancy colorways (not that there's anything wrong with that), are disillusioned more and more with Casio's continuing disregard for it's original customer base.

...all right, but it is a pity that they discontinued Casio DW-5600C-1V ( and parts ) since it was approved by the NASA and was ( is ) so cultic!

According to several threads here at WUS, the 5600E was also approved by NASA.

The decision to discontinue the 5600C and introduce the 5600E was probably seen as "improvement" by Casio and most customers -- the opinion of the collectors that make up a small percentage of their customers probably wasn't as critical.

    • the new model with a resin case is almost surely less expensive to produce than the metal cased version, which lets Casio continue to compete against other "mass market" watch makers like Timex
    • the resin case is significantly lighter in weight -- not everybody appreciates the "heft" of a steel case, as evidenced by the number of titanium watches on the market
    • the electroluminescent panel is generally seen as an improvement in terms of reading the watch in the dark.

That being said, it shouldn't be THAT difficult for Casio to continue to produce spare parts -- the molds for their watch parts certainly don't take up THAT much space in the factory, and it shouldn't be THAT hard to do a small production run when existing supplies run out and customers continue to want them! (In a hypothetical perfect world, it shouldn't have been that difficult for Casio to produce bezels that didn't suffer from "resin rot" either, and they have apparently tried to fix that problem with more recent models.)

I've believed for a long time that Casio could make some good money on a short production run of bezels and bands for the vintage 5000C/5200C/5600C models (and perhaps the 5700Cs as well). At a time where a single bezel can go for upwards of $150, Casio could easily get $50/set for a bezel and band in my opinion. Let the run last for a year to allow the vintage owners to get their watches back up to snuff and let 'em go.

Since resin will rot, they should keep producing all cases!
