    Casio PRW-500-TJdisplay issue.

Hello. I'm a new member here and want some help regarding an issue I'm having with a watch. I recently acquired this Casio PRW-500-TJ from a private seller. The issue of this watch is the dot matrix displayw has been fading. I bought the watch after meeting the seller and checking it and it didn't seem to have any issue but now the upper display of the watch has developed a tendency to have misssing segments while in main timekeeping mode. It does show full letters while in other modes. Anyone know what's wrong? I don't have watch making tools with me so if anyone can explain what problem this watch has, I'd be able to explain that when I get it serviced.Name: IMG_20190504_170426200_HDR.jpg

Moved from Public forum. You may want to try resetting the movement. If that doesn't work then replace the battery.

If the battery was bad, the whole display would've been lighter than usual and the battery indicator would not have shown that the watch is fully charged but this has only been happening with the dot matrix display, I did put the watch in the fridge and the problem seemed to have been rectified but returned as soon as the watch returned to normal temperature. Maybe this is because of the hot weather here? We are just on the end of a heat wave afterall. I don't know about this model much as the internet seemed devoid of this particular model. This one runs the module 3141 and not 3143 as present on the UK model.

Try the simple fix first. Reset. If that doesn't work then the battery.

A few years back a Seiko analog digital watch was having similar problems. Two small sections of the digital display would become very dim. Replacing the battery caused the sections to reappear as fully reflective for maybe a year. They would gradually become dim until the battery was replaced. Replacing the battery may or may not solve your problem. But it's worth a try imho.

If neither of those work then your other option would be to find a beat up watch with a good movement. Or just learn to live with it.

Okay, how would I reset the watch then? I also don't have any idea what battery this watch uses as I already said that I wasn't able to find any information about this watch on the web.

Casio home site may have the owners manual. Enter the module number.

It doesn't. It has the manual for module 3143.

Even in the 3143 manual, there is no information about the battery model that the watch uses. No I'm not a watch maker and I don't want to screw the watch up by opening it myself.
